In Time Tec is hiring at an impressive speed. Last year alone, we added over 200 members to our team — so many that we had to find additional office space! With all this hiring, our recruiters meet hundreds of candidates a month, both in the US and in India. So what exactly do we look for when we are interviewing potential employees?
When In Time Tec co-founder and CEO Jeet Kumar first moved to the United States at 27 years old, he landed in LA with $120 in his pocket. He was in a small apartment with a few other people in similar situations: fresh off a plane, armed with years of education and experience in the tech field, and working with a recruiter to find jobs stateside. There was no telling where Jeet would end up; a job could come up in small-town Maryland or at a high-rise in California. It was dependent on the recruiter and the companies they were working with. Within a few months, Jeet got a call. “There is an opportunity at HP, Inc. in Boise, Idaho.” He packed up what little he had with him and moved to the Treasure Valley. It was here where his kids were born, where he built a life and a family. It was here Jeet built a community and networked. It was at HP where he met Dan Puga, who would eventually become his business partner and co-founder of In Time Tec. Dan grew up in Greenleaf, about an hour outside Boise. He met his wife in kindergarten and they (very much later) married and started a family in Nampa.
1. Use your company's VPN when possible and always use it when connected to public wifi, such as coffee shops and fast food places.
2. Make sure anti-virus stays up to date. Sometimes, being away from the corporate network means your computer can't connect to the anti-virus servers to get updates. Again, connecting to the VPN should resolve that.
3. Use your intraoffice messaging to verify suspicious emails. Phishing scams are more likely to be successful if they appear to come from co-workers because the apparent sender isn't nearby to check in with.
4. Be aware that emails with shipping information may be phishing scams. Phishing may be more successful because companies need to send equipment to people's homes.
5. Store data in your organization's cloud services to avoid data loss. If company documents are stored on removable media like a USB, it can get left around the house where your children might find it and take it to school, not knowing it is work-related. Or, a pet might eat it, and you, being unable to locate it, may have to report it as a data loss event.
6. Don't do personal activities on your work computer.
7. Keep all of your personal technology up to date and secure. For example, leaving default passwords enabled on your wireless can allow hackers to access your home network, including your work device.
Every 39 seconds, a cyber attack takes place. With a steady upwards trend, it’s crucial that you know what a cyber attack is and how to identify when it is happening. Put simply, a cyber attack is an unwelcome attempt to steal, expose, alter, disable, or destroy information through unauthorized access to computer systems. Sixty percent of small companies go out of business within six months of falling victim to a data breach or cyber attack.
We all have 24 hours, 1,440 minutes, and 86,400 seconds in a day. That’s the unique thing about time, nobody has a competitive advantage. You can’t buy it, and no matter what you do, you can’t get more than 24 hours in a day. A lot of us are probably guilty of saying that we wish there were more hours in the day. But why wish for more hours in the day when we can make better use of the time we have?
When starting a career, there can be challenges employees and employers face integrating and contributing into a team. As a new entry into a chosen field, a person may have to come up-to-speed on complex business processes and gain fundamental domain knowledge before they can deliver meaningful value. As an employer, you must provide time and space, along with learning materials, to a new employee.
