Can you imagine this world without people? If you take away people, there’s no life. Life only happens because of and through people. People create life and we are not meant to live this life alone. We are meant to live in communities full of happiness, connection, and support. In the movie “Passenger”, Jim awakens Aurora after his pod malfunctions because he can’t bear the thought of living the rest of his life in isolation. We all need the feeling of inner connection with other human beings. People are the reason that life exists. They should always come first.
It is my 50th birthday, and as I think back on my life up to this point, I am full of memories and feelings. Growing up, there was a lot of haziness and fear about where my life would go. I always had the belief that there was a way for me to be successful because I had the work ethic and commitment to create a better life than the one I was born into. But how, when, and what was unclear to me. I was also unsure what I would be able to create for others. When I look at my life today, I am feeling thankful, blessed, and excited. Thankful to have had the life that I have had. Blessed to have the experience of love I have. And excited about the future possibilities ahead.
In the last 12 months, I have asked at least 20 employees to make $1 million mistakes. I make that request regularly and I am very serious about it. Do you know why I do that? Because if they make a million dollar mistake, it is because they took a million dollar risk and put their life into it. They committed to something that inspired them and that is what I want my employees to do, even if they fall short. Our company flourishes because our people are committed to something bigger than themselves and they live full out.
There were many things about 2020 that were difficult. The COVID pandemic hit every country and every community, and it has changed the way we think and the way we do things in this world. In March, it was business as usual, and then the pandemic came and forced us to pivot and adjust in many ways. And though I don't want to overlook all the challenges and suffering that this year has brought, when I look back, 2020 was the year that made In Time Tec a more nimble, flexible, and agile company.
